Mel and Loz on the Piss...

The last night’s sleep in the van wasn’t too bad but after our trek around Katherine National Park I think we were both exhausted and managed to sleep fairly well.
So we fill up the van with petroleum (the cheapest we come across at 117.9c/L) and we are off...Coke for brekkie this morning...No coke Zero so it was full strength for Mel...gee does she get chatty and silly with all that sugar. We are flying down the road at 110km/hour and Mel needs to go to the toilet...there was a little town (can’t think of the name of it right now) but we miss it...Thinking Adelaide River wasn’t that much further up the road all was well...Until Mel is about to wet her pants and we are still 60kms from Adelaide River...Such a trooper that she is finally made it there in pain...such a relief to get to a toilet after waiting for so long..
It was a pretty uneventful trip...Just rain and flooded roads all the way...Mel has done a fantastic job driving through all sorts of conditions to have taken us the 4272kms to land in Darwin about 1030 on the Friday morning...
First stop was the Boatdeck Cafe in the harbour for a coffee and free internet to update facebook and the blog for you to read...then off to find the hostel to see if we might be able to check in a little early...No problems there...a bit of shuffling around on the receptions part (as we are here a day early) and we have a room for the week...So we find our room on the second floor to discover 2 people already in there and we settling into our beds...Me on the bottom bunk and Mel on the top...A quick unpack of the campervan and off to fill it up one last time and to find a carwash...Damn near impossible in this city. I ended up calling the campervan place to ask them where the nearest one was...A quick sweep out and a wipe over of the inside before a high pressure hose and a soap brush...we discover there is still dirt on the van...So out come the Elmo wipes that got rid of the rest of the dirt...
We go to drop the campervan off. The guy Tony is a complete wanker to say the least. I must say our experience with the campervan mop was a complete disgrace from the start...Not a company I will be recommending to anyone if they want to go on a campervaning holiday...We get that over and done with and we are on foot from here on in...
Back to the hostel to relax a little...with big plans to let our hair down...We had a bite to eat...the wonderfully delightful Macca’s...then a quick freshen up and to the deck for some hard earned beers...double bonus it was happy hour and the Coopers Pale Ale was only $3.50 a stubbie...A real taste of home...without the chunks that Mel got in her milk...A couple of beers into the evening and we have being joined at the table by some backpacking locals...A couple of fellow Australians and some Welsh guys...and a German...now the beer was a flowing and the tunes were a crankin’. Out the window went our plan for Shenanigans...and a new plan for Wisdom arose...Not a wise choice!!!
These new found drinking buddies were giving us the giggles...One of the Welshmen could fit his mouth over the top of a pint glass and skull it...not that was a feet we had to get pictures of...and boys being boys had to get their tops off for a who has a better body comp...We left them to judge for themselves...but that game was over quick as it appeared they did this a lot...
Trundling off to Wisdom for a few more beers and Mel gets up for a bit of a jig...I must admit I was not capable of jigging and decided it was time I called it a night and was escorted back to the hostel...by one of our friendly Welsh neighbours across the hall...I could not get my card to open my room...found myself having a smoke with one of the other neighbours and landing on the first floor somehow...Best choice I made all night from there was to go to reception and get my card sorted...So here I am drunk as a skunk at reception at about 130 in the morning trying to tell the lady i could not get into my room...Hard explaining when my card works in the lift but not at my room...so asked if I had tried to use it...Of course I bloody had...after what felt like 20 minutes getting the card sorted I’m finally falling into bed...With Mel back from the pub and not far behind me...
What a first night in Darwin....
