Day 6 - Alice to Tennant Creek...From Oasis to Hell Hole......

Devils Marbles
Wycliffe Wells - Home of the UFO
Burrow Creek Pub/Petrol Station/General Store
Common Site along the road site
Tropic Of Capricorn
Where to begin.......after a rather subdued night out at Bo’s, we woke up at 730am; not a bad effort for 4 hours sleep we think..... the 2 litres of beer each paid off and a solid night sleep was had by both.....
After brekkie and showers we were on the road, well on the way up the road again. With a fair distance to cover and heads pounding it was time to make a move.......and move we did. With DJ Loz playing some fat tracks, DJ Mel had retired to the driver’s seat..... it was time for a plan of attack... so many places to go so many people to see.....
Once again we stopped off at most monuments and memorial plaques along the way.....
We think that number plates should be changed to say: NT the memorial state
The glimmer of hope in this trek was that we were beginning to see green, lots and lots of green, also the fact that we could take a break at Devil’s Marbles, yes apparently the devil has marbles and they are quite large as well. They also look very similar to Uluru, the Olgas and Kings Canyon in the fact that they are all rather big rocks.......magnificent they are though... after plenty of time fluffing around and trying to get the right photo shots it was time for the long drop break before heading off down the highway again.......
After getting into Tennant Creek we decide it is a good idea to hunt down a caravan park .....big mistake.....
The first one we rock up was unmanned, so we head down to set up camp like the sign told us too, but we have a change of heart and think it best to sort out payment before we get to settled.....we sit on the grass near the road out the front of the caravan park looking like a pair of yobbos....with everyone staring at us as they drove past........After about 20 mins we decide enough is enough and that we should go and stay at the other caravan park that was back down the road.... so we high tail it down there ......
We get there check in and have a bit of a yarn with the lady that owns it, off we go to find our site we have got free reign to pick wherever we want to set up....we drive around in circles about 10 times then decide to park near an older couple who look like they have put down pegs for some time......then it’s off to the laundry to do some washing....the clothes were starting to get a little bit poo stinky (fresh underwear has never felt so good...). After a mad dash to get the clothes off the line because water started falling from the sky (We believe Terrotorian’s call this rain or something similar) it was off to the showers for a well earned pick me up.......one problem.......no spiggin hot water, and when you are cold and wet and have not brought a jumper as someone else who is on this roadtrip told you you wouldn’t need it’s a bit of a pisser really. After lots of expeletives it was time to organise something for dinner............oh the choices of culinary delights in the campervan (2 minute noodles, sandwhiches and spaghettisaurus or alphaghetti.......yum yum in the tum tum =) ).
After a 9pm dinner it was time to bunker down for the night.......bit scary in Tennant Creek, not on the Leylan Brothers Hotspots I think....... it was torch worthy going to the facilities in the middle of the night as the caravan park is off the beaten track and the lighting was non-existent.....Mel managed a mad dash after Loz was yammering on in her sleep about the door, paranoia had set in in good old Tennant Creek. It was the first night we have slept with all the windows and doors closed in the campervan so luckily it was a cool night otherwise we could of had another sauna box on our hands like Agutta.......
Thankfully though we are writing this so we SURVIVED TENNANT CREEK.........
The only other heads up we can give the fair people of Tennant Creek is that a majority of you need to work on your personality......tourists come there and spend money we don’t expect much but when we say hello, maybe try saying it back and having a smile on your face like the lady we saw at the first caravan park with her puppy...... she didn’t know what we were saying to her but she was polite and smiled anyway.......maybe then you might get a boost in your economy because people learn by word of mouth and we don’t know anyone who has willingly stayed more than a night there unless they live there..........
SO adios Tennant Creek next time we will stop at Daly Waters as planned...........
We hope you have enjoyed this instalment no doubt the next one will be more enlightening.......
