Day 11 - It Rains A Lot In Darwin...

Cars in a Work carpark...check out the water level!
Picture doesn't show but that water was an inch or so deep
Rain in the Mall
Rain in the Mall
Small croc spotting
We awake finally on Monday and get ourselves ready for a day of exploring this city...First stop was back down the mall to head towards the Library or Government House or anywhere really...We ahve been walking down the Mall for about 10 minutes when it starts to shit down with rain...not just a light drizzle but pouring....So I buy a diet coke from a cafe so we could sit in the till the rain stopped...As in Darwin the rain is only meant to last about 30 minutes tops then it goes away....As our luck has it we are in the cafe for about 45 minutes and it hasn’t even begun to let up....
Getting bored looking at each other (truthfully only so much of that anyone can take) Another quick wander down to Dollars and Sense to secure some undercoverness in the way of Umbrella’s....Floral things or small silver ones....the pretty ladies that we are opted for the silver ones....so $6 for 2 umbrella’s and we are unbeatable....Of we go to stop at the Library....Only it was the local library and not the state library....but we took refuge there for a couple of hours reading old magazines and newspapers....Finally looks like it is going to ease up and we are out and about again....only to find it hasn’t eased at all...We stop into Top End Escapes to confirm our booking for tomorrow’s tour to Kakadu and head back to the hostel....
We bummed around at the hostel for a bit catching up on writing this blog and then boredom had set it so we got the trusty umbrellas and we are off on our trusty feet again....
This time we head in the opposite direction to our ‘norm’ and head towards the beach....do a little bit of croc spotting...seeing a little one not too far off the shoreline...we were looking from afar, the safety of a lookout. Continued along the foreshore through bicentennial park taking lots of pictures of the bombing memorial’s and around past Government house when craziness had set in and I’m walking along the street shooting my umbrella at people going past....sound effects and all...Mel is wetting herself with laughter so back to our favourite haunt the library for a quick stop and off to Coles for some rice....
Veggie Risotto for dinner (WOW moving upper-class now) accompanied by some wanker spotting and a viewing of Top Gear and Underbelly we are back off to Coles...also becoming our favourite haunt (it is only across the road)....We were getting Water and Chocolate for our trip to Kakadu...We call it an early night as we need to be up at 5 in the morning......
